The Emily Center at Phoenix Children's Hospital presents Nuestro Camino™ and high-risk pregnancy resources to assist families in preparing for the birth of their child during such pregnancies.

Families navigating high-risk pregnancies often face challenges, particularly when medical professionals communicate using complex terminology. There are instances when healthcare providers believe they have explained things clearly, without realizing that some patients may struggle to grasp the information. A key indicator of understanding is whether the patient can articulate the information in their own words.

The Nuestro Camino™ application for high-risk pregnancy is designed to:

• Enhance communication between families and their healthcare team.
• Empower parents with essential knowledge to prepare adequately for the baby's arrival.
• Provide a safe space for parents to express confusion or uncertainty and to ask questions.
• Guide families on what information needs to be communicated to nurses or doctors, ensuring healthcare professionals can verify that correct information has been received and clarify any misunderstandings.
• Instill confidence in families regarding their preparedness for the baby's birth, recognizing potential warning signs, and knowing how to respond appropriately.

The Emily Center, established in 1990, is named in honor of Emily Anderson, who bravely fought against a rare form of leukemia for four years before her passing just days before her 17th birthday. In response to their frustration over the lack of accessible and comprehensible information about Emily's illness, her parents founded The Emily Center. Their mission is to ensure that families of children with health issues always have access to accurate, easy-to-understand pediatric health information at no cost to Arizona families.
